Job Description:
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
As a thematic lead, contribute towards:
· Designing of program ensuring quality standards and Save the Children’s Theory of Change.
· Capacity building of field implementation teams and quality assurance of child protection work at provincial, district and community levels
· Adhere to the dual mandate i.e. while contributing technically and ensuring the quality of the CP program in development as well as emergency and early recovery CP program. The CP Specialist (within the country and out of the country) can be deployed in an emergency response as and when required.
Technical expertise
· To ensure that technical guidelines are fully adhered on the design and quality implementation of Save the Children’s Protection interventions ensuring the approach is consistent with other agencies and integrated with other SC activities.
· To contribute in the development of the protection strategy
· Define advocacy strategy and work with Child Right’s and Advocacy team at the local, district, provincial and national level, on Child Protection issues
· Design and contribute towards research into the lives of children and their communities, and the policies and practices that impact upon them, with particular regard to Child Rights and Child Protection
Management
· Provide technical support to protection program activities. Ensure the technical guidelines on the quality of implementation of program activities are followed.
· Capacity building of CP team/partners through comprehensive training need assessments and contributing to the partners/staff technical capacity building plans
· Involve in and contribute to member servicing, capacity building and development of partners through oversight and collaboration
· The CP Specialist is part of broader Program Development and Quality team, and will work closely with other sectors’ specialists for integration into other programs as per the provided framework.
Protection Mainstreaming
· Implement and follow-up on the developed strategies for mainstreaming child rights and child protection across all thematic programmes of SC in Pakistan as per the provided guidelines and framework
Fundraising, partnerships and reporting
o Providing inputs in partnerships, project proposals and to SC Child Protection programmes/projects
Coordination
· Represent Save the Children in Protection fora in Islamabad, and elsewhere in country as and when required under CP portfolio and scope.
Monitoring and evaluation
· Where security permits, the CP Specialist will make regular visits to field sites, to monitor protection program implementation and offer technical inputs
· Work with PDL Monitoring, Evaluation and Research unit to ensure that protection programs are monitored against already developed standards and indicators
· Support program assessments, evaluations and other reviews required in the program.
Skills Required:
• A very good understanding of at least of key technical areas of CP programming and a working knowledge of the other sectors that include education and child development, food security and livelihoods and health and nutrition.
• A clear understanding of quality assurance principles and mechanism in the area of Child Protection
• Experience of working with partners and strong capacity building skills.
• Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies.
• Ability to analyze information, evaluate options, and follow the strategic directions as guided.
• An in-depth understanding of national development issues in particular in relation to children.
• Previous experience of working with a multi-cultural team and the adaptability to varied team dynamics
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English language skills.
